Above all, we want you to feel confident that you’re living or working in a completely bug-free home or office.

What You Can Do to Prepare For a Bed Bug Treatment

Reduce Clutter

Bed bugs love hiding in clutter, whether it’s sheets on your bed, clothes on the floor of your closet, or stacks of books in your office. Reducing clutter when there are bed bugs involved, however, is a bit more involved than just picking up items and putting them where they belong. It’s essential that you don’t spread the bugs from one area to another. When picking up any clothing items, first launder them using hot water and high heat in the dryer. If you determine that an item needs to be thrown out, use plastic bags and immediately put the bags in an outside bin.

Bed bugs can also hide in magazines or newspapers, so throw any unneeded materials away in a plastic bag. It’s important to avoid using cardboard boxes because bed bugs can live inside the cardboard.

Bed Bug Treatments DenverPrepare Your Bed

Before a contractor comes to your home for bed bug treatment, pull your bed away from the wall about six inches. If you don’t already have one, put a bed bug proof cover over your mattress. Make sure that the cover is durable and strong to keep bed bugs from entering, and to also prevent bed bugs trapped inside from getting out.

Remove any items that you have stored below the bed. If there are clothes, put them through a wash cycle to kill any existing bugs.

Living Areas

Inspect surfaces like window treatments, furniture, baseboards, and outlets. If you have to move anything into another room, if possible, put the item in the dryer on the highest heat setting. Immediately after, put the item in a sealed plastic container. Thoroughly vacuum the floors and carefully dispose of the contents or bag. If the vacuum uses a bag, place it in a sealed plastic bag or container and place it in an outside bin.

While You’re Away

During the bed bug heat treatment, there are a few things that are essential to a thorough elimination:

  • Do not bring with you any purses, backpacks, or briefcases. If there are any bed bugs inside these items, the could reinfest the home when the treatment has been completed.
  • If there are any items that cannot withstand temperatures of around 140℉, such as hairspray, candles, and indoor plants, remove them from the home.
  • All pets, including cats, dogs, and fish, should be removed from the home.
  • Turn off your TV and other electronics.

The technicians at Thermanator in Denver use a heat treatment method that will effectively kill all adult bed bugs as well as any eggs and larva. In order to completely eliminate the bugs from your home, we use special equipment that will raise the temperature in your home to around 140℉. The rooms will remain at this temperature for long enough to ensure that everything is killed.
